International registration for bamboo cultivars is an effective approach to legitimately establish bamboo cultivars in accordance with the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP). Because of its scientific and authoritative nature, international registration for bamboo cultivars has been widely recognized and adopted by the international community.Since the "International Cultivar Registration Center for Bamboos (ICRCB)" was approved by the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS),periodic positive achievements have been acquired.Until December 2021,406 bamboo cultivars have been recognized and registered worldwide, including 352 traditional cultivars and 54 newly registered, thanks to good efforts by the Center to systematically allocate the varieties and forms, and register new cultivars internationally and legally according to ICNCP,although there remain 179 bamboo taxa in doubt and not yet recognized due to lack of enough information. It is proved that the international registration for bamboo cultivars facilitates the standardization of the global bamboo cultivars information, integrates the previous accomplishments in this field, promotes the international exchange and enhances the development of bamboo industry in the world.
