Review on the Study of the Genus Chimonocalamus (Poaceae:Bambusoideae)

  • Chimonocalamus was established by renowned bamboo taxonomists Chi-ju Hsueh and Tong-pei Yi. Species in this genus are medium-sized clumping bamboos. Most taxa of this genus are distributed in China,India,Bhutan,Myanmar,Thailand and Vietnam,with Yunnan,China as the diversity center. The inner culm walls of most species in Chimonocalamuspossess fragrant volatile liquid which is unique in the subfamily Bambusoideae,and most taxa are distributed narrowly. Therefore,they are considered as rare bamboos by researchers. In this paper,research progresses on Chimonocalamus were summarized in terms of taxonomy,molecular phylogenetics,phytochemistry,technology of introduction and cultivation,and so on,which may provide references for the conservation and utilization of the genus Chimonocalamus.
