Abstract

Abstract

In 1981,Chimonobambusa szechuanensis(Rendle) Keng f. was introduced from Mabian Dafengding Nature Reserve to the Hetaoping base of China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda in Wolong Nature Reserve. In 2010,some individuals with aubergine culms and branches were found in the cultivated population. Those individuals were separated,optimized and cultivated further. The aubergine color on culms and branches was retained in these individuals. In this paper,it was described as a new bamboo cultivar,Chimonobambusa szechuanensis 'Wolonghong',as the giant panda's staple food bamboo.
